Common questions

How do I open spreadsheets by double-clicking?

Right-click an .xlsx (or .xls, .csv) file, choose Open with, then Choose another app, select XLSX Editor and pick Always. Windows asks you; the app never changes your default apps by itself.

I lost my changes after a crash

Open XLSX Editor again. The start page lists Recover unsaved work with a copy of each workbook that had unsaved changes. Open it and save it.

My CSV shows everything in one column

In the import dialog, pick the right separator (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe) and encoding. The preview shows the result before you open the file.

A file won't open

The app says why. It cannot open .xlsb, .ods or Excel 5.0/95 files; save them as .xlsx in another program first. Password-protected workbooks need their password. If a normal .xlsx or .xls file fails, send us the message and, if you can, a copy with no personal data.

Why can't I save as .xls?

The old .xls format holds at most 65,536 rows and 256 columns. For bigger sheets the app offers .xlsx instead.

Does it run macros?

No. An .xlsm file opens and keeps its macros when saved, but they are never run.

No. Everything happens on your PC. See the privacy policy.
